Health/Wellness/Nutrition Program
Child and Adult Care Nutrition Program:
The Harvey Brooks Foundation is a sponsor for the Illinois State Board Of Education Summer Food Service (SFSP) and the After-School "At-Risk" Snack Program. Free meals are made available to all children 18 years of age and under and to persons over 18 years who are enrolled in state approved educational programs for mentally or physically handicapped. Schools, community organizations, residential/day camps and social agencies providing structured recreational activities and educational services to children after-school and/or during the summer are encouraged to participate as "Sites" to ensure nutritional access to as many children as possible in the Joliet area community.
Program Components/Hours:
During the summer, meals are served Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. After-School "At-Risk" Snacks are served during individual "Site" program hours. The program is manage by trained staff in coordination with state guidelines.
Senior Services Nutritional Program:
The Harvey Brooks Foundation in collaboration with the Senior Services Center of Joliet, will sponsor a senior nutritional site beginning in September, 2004. Meals are planned to be served three days a week between the hours of 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. The program is coordinated and managed by personnel trained in the preparation, handling and serving of food per State standards.
Summer Youth Camp:
The Harvey Brooks Foundation sponsors a two week program during the summer months through collaboration with area YMCA's and the Park District. The Foundation provides instructors and transportation for youth to community recreational sited during the day. Recreational activities include, swimming, golfing and tennis - sports that some youngsters may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn. Ages: 7-12. Times and sites are scheduled according to Park District and YMCA scheduled events.
Gentlemen and Scholars Mentoring Program for Boys:
This mentoring program is offered during the summer (June-July) for boys ages 12-18. Groups meet twice/week for four hours. Adult males - positive role models - representing various crafts, skills, and professions, facilitate these group sessions and interact with junior high and high school males to share experiences and promote positive behavior, work ethics and skill development.

TLC Senior Services Program
The Tender Loving Care Senior Nutrition Program (TLC) provides hot meals to adults 60 years and older every Wednesday 11:00 a.m. - 1:00p.m. Nutritious meals are prepared and served on site at All Nations Church Family Life Center. Seniors are able to dine in a safe, healthy environment and enjoy educational and recreational activities planned each week. The TLC program is endorsed by the Senior Services Center of Will County. Life-Line Food Pantry provides food assistance to residents in need every Wednesday 10a.m. - 12:30p.m. The food pantry, an affliate of Northern Illinois Food Bank, serves food baskets with a variety of wholesome foods, including milk and other dairy products, bread, cereal, meat (as available), fresh and canned fruits and vegetables, and other goods.
