Life Skills Program
Sewing, Cooking, Budgeting and Financial Management
Mission Statement: Instill pride, self esteem, and self-sufficiency by preparing participants to become more productive, contributing citizens.
Goals:
- Provide opportunities for more positive social interaction with peers.
- Serve as a mentoring activity to foster growth and development of life skill interests.
- Give guidance and assistance with management of time, money and spending.
- Create an atmosphere for motivation, creativity and support of new learned skills.
- Prepare participants to further enhance their skills into possible entrepreneuralship.
Program Description/Components:
- The program is divided into 3 - six-week sessions consisting of Sewing, Cooking, and Financial Management.
- Instructors, trained in their respective vocation, volunteer to meet once/week for two hours
- Classroom activities are interactive and fun, providing opportunities for more positive and social interaction
- Serves as a mentoring activity
- Small group classes allow for individual coaching and training as needed
- Serves individuals who are recipients of other social services, such as, public assistance, homeless shelters, and teen parent programs.
- Hard copy and computer-generated worksheet and workbooks are used to generate financial plans and guidelines.
Program Hours: Sessions are generally two hours in length. (Sewing and Cooking classes are scheduled according to instructor availability) 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Mondays or Wednesdays. Budgeting and Financial Management: 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
